Beijing Academy of Ophthalmology is a first-level society approved by the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, officially established on June 5, 2018. The main objective of the society is to focus on education and teaching, promote talent development in the field of ophthalmology, facilitate academic exchange and development in ophthalmology, serve ophthalmic healthcare professionals, enhance the level of ophthalmic medical care, and extensively carry out science popularization and patient education to raise public awareness of eye care.
Academic and Educational Training
In the aspects of academic and educational training, the society actively organizes various online and offline activities in collaboration with major medical institutions in Beijing, forming distinctive and influential teaching programs and brand activities, including:
Primary Ophthalmology Continuing Education Lecture Series: A free training program for a wide range of primary ophthalmologists, officially launched in January 2019 with monthly sessions. It has been widely welcomed and recognized due to its reasonable course structure, convenient learning format, and rich and practical teaching content.
Ophthalmic Surgery Carnival: An annual academic event with surgery as the theme, covering various sub-specialties. Organized by the society's Education Committee and core experts from various study groups, the carnival continuously innovates in content and format, providing a professional learning and exchange platform for ophthalmologists in the Beijing region.
"Steps Across a Thousand Miles" – Production of Ophthalmic Mobile Learning Manuals: Jointly initiated by the Beijing Ophthalmological Society and nine teaching hospitals in Beijing, based on the "National Health and Family Planning Commission's Standardized Training Plan for Resident Doctors - Ophthalmology" textbook, 196 doctors produced 87 high-quality instructional videos. This systematic and standardized video series serves as valuable teaching material for doctors at various levels to learn or review basic ophthalmic examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
Series of Training Programs for Vitreoretinal Surgery Doctors: Aimed at cultivating vitreoretinal surgery doctors, the society has established a nationwide network of surgical training bases in collaboration with multiple hospitals. Adhering to the principles of high quality, small scale, and practicality, the training combines theoretical lectures, hands-on training, and clinical practice to effectively train batches of vitreoretinal surgeons.
Series of Special Continuing Education Classes, Case Forums, Surgical Salons, and other teaching projects: With a focus on grassroots, the planning of topics, selection of speakers, and arrangements for teaching management all strive to bring practical value to colleagues.
Society's teaching platform - Mingyi Zhizhishu Knowledge Base, has attracted 33,007 ophthalmic healthcare professionals for registration, accumulating 4,721 teaching presentations and lecture videos, with a total of 4.455 million learning sessions.
Science Popularization and Patient Education
The society also conducts a variety of colorful activities in science popularization and patient education, benefiting patients and the general public, including:
Science Popularization and Patient Education Short Videos: Starting from July 2021, doctors from major hospitals in Beijing were invited to collaboratively create short videos, addressing topics of public concern regarding eye health. Nearly a thousand videos have been created, serving as a communication tool between clinical doctors and patients and widely disseminating through the mass media, enhancing the influence of departments and doctors and promoting society's attention and correct understanding of eye health.
Extensive collaboration with mass media, planning and launching a series of science popularization programs: Collaborating with Beijing City Radio's "Health Gas Station" and People's Net's "Good Doctors" under People's Daily, the society aims to increase public awareness of eye health and spread knowledge of eye care.
Care for the Fundus Patient Education Management Project: Targeting patients with diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, the project focuses on strengthening the management of chronic disease patients and improving patient compliance. It has received active participation from 95 hospitals and 112 doctors or departments nationwide, creating more than 900 patient education videos for daily clinical patient communication and public education.
"One Elderly, One Child" Eye Disease Early Screening Project: Targeting populations with a relatively high incidence of eye diseases, early screening can achieve early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. This is an important approach to solving eye disease problems among the elderly and children, effectively improving the eye health level of the elderly and children. By entering communities and kindergartens, high-quality ophthalmic medical resources are brought to the grassroots, combining science popularization and diagnosis and treatment, and effectively promoting the implementation of hierarchical diagnosis and treatment.
